Obama to Send Jobs Plan to Congress Today

President Barack Obama will send his plan aimed to boost the employment rate to Congress this morning.

Obama will also speak about his at plan today at a Rose Garden ceremony, during which he will be flanked by representatives from the various job sectors that he is looking to save with his nearly $450 billion proposal. A White House official said in a release that Obama “will call on Congress to pass the bill, which contains the kinds of proposals to grow the economy and create jobs that have been supported by both parties in the past.”

The plan, which Obama first announced last week before a joint session of Congress, combines tax cuts and new spending on infrastructure to grow the number of construction jobs. It includes money to curb teacher layoffs and boost other job sectors. The plan received a tepid response from Republicans last week, and Members scoffed at Obama’s call for the Joint Committee on Deficit Reduction to find the offsets to pay for it.
