Bonamici Launches First Ad of Oregon Special (VIDEO)

State Sen. Suzanne Bonamici has released the first TV ad of the special election campaign for Oregon’s 1st district.

With six weeks to go until the Nov. 8 Democratic primary, Bonamici’s ad touts her work as a consumer advocate at the Federal Trade Commission and lists her priorities should she be elected.

“In Congress, I’ll stand up for Oregon families and small businesses instead of tax breaks for oil companies and the wealthiest,” Bonamici says. “And I’ll keep our promise on Social Security and Medicare.”

Her campaign declined to release details on the ad buy, saying only that the ad launched Sunday.

Bonamici is one of eight Democrats in the race to replace former Rep. David Wu (D), who resigned earlier this year. The Democratic primary also features state Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian and state Rep. Brad Witt. Five Republicans, including 2010 nominee Rob Cornilles, are running.

The Democratic nominee will be heavily favored in the Jan. 31 special election in this traditionally Democratic district, which stretches from the coast into Portland. However, after a Republican won New York’s Democratic-leaning 9th district earlier this month, Democrats likely won’t take the race lightly.
