Schilling Receives Death Threat

Capitol Police and the FBI are looking into an assassination threat against Rep. Bobby Schilling.

The freshman Illinois Republican received a “very concerning email alert Tuesday evening,” according to his spokeswoman, Andrea Pivarunas.

According to local news reports, the threat read, “I will pay $75,000 for ASSASSINATING Illinois Congresswoman [sic] Bobby Schilling and any US Congressman, US Senator and FBI, CIA and NSA DIRECTORS and their FAMILY MEMBERS regardless of their age.”

While Capitol Police spokeswoman Sgt. Kimberly Schneider confirmed Thursday that while the Capitol Police and the FBI are “conducting an active investigation” into the matter, “USCP does not discuss the security of Members of Congress, and any communication between USCP and any Member of Congress is confidential.”

But Pivarunas said Schilling and his family are taking the threat seriously.

“[They] are taking recommended precaution while the situation is being investigated by relevant authorities,” Pivarunas told Roll Call. “He is grateful for the professionalism of local law enforcement in responding to the situation.”
