K Street Files: Rubino Lands at Airline Lobby

Airlines for America has landed Shelley Rubino, most recently chief of staff to Rep. John Larson (D-Conn.), who will serve as the group’s vice president of global government affairs. After almost four years on Capitol Hill, she will start her new gig April 2.

“Shelley is well regarded on both sides of the aisle and will be a strong addition to our growing government affairs team,” said A4A president and CEO Nicholas Calio, who took over the group more than a year ago, in a statement. (Calio has been revamping the group, including a name change. It had been the Air Transport Association of America.)

“The airline industry is critical to creating jobs, driving economic activity and connecting the United States to the global economy, and we are committed to building a world-class trade association and advocacy team — bolstered with the addition of Shelley — that can help ensure this industry has the right infrastructure and tax and regulatory environment to be globally competitive,” Calio added.

Proving that Rubino has bipartisan credentials, Rep. Bill Shuster (R-Pa.) also offered a comment in the group’s press release: “I think Shelley will be a tremendous addition to the A4A team that Nick Calio is building.”

Before her stint on the Hill, Rubino was director of government law and strategies at Brown, Rudnick, Berlack, Israels, LLP.

New Brand

The Coalition for Interstate Tax Fairness & Job Growth recently relaunched with its new name, website and strategy to combat what it considers unfair state and local corporate income taxation. It had been called the Coalition to Protect Interstate Commerce.

K Street Moves

In other moves on K Street, Michael Wilson, currently vice president of federal governmental affairs for NextEra Energy, has been named special counsel to NextEra Energy Chairman and CEO Lew Hay on policy and legislative matters. David Markarian will assume Wilson’s day-to-day responsibilities as vice president of federal governmental affairs.
