Georgia: NRCC Hits John Barrow in TV Spot to Air During Masters
The National Republican Congressional Committee will begin airing a television ad in the Augusta, Ga., media market Thursday knocking vulnerable Democratic Rep. John Barrow and attempting to tie him to President Barack Obama.
The ad, set to air during the Masters Tournament, uses a golf theme. It shows two silhouetted figures holding golf clubs — who appear to look something like Obama and Barrow — with one’s arm around the other. The NRCC is backing the ad with a weeklong $36,000 buy.
“They said you can judge a man by the company he keeps,” a male narrator says. “Consider John Barrow and Barack Obama: Barrow supported Obama’s failed stimulus, voted for billions in bailouts, voted to keep Obamacare the law of the land.”
Obama is shown driving a golf ball. The next shot shows a ball missing the hole.
The ad ends with a clip from a 2008 radio ad for Barrow featuring Obama saying, “I want to ask you to join me in supporting Congressman John Barrow.”
The announcer adds: “Barrow and Obama: the wrong pairing for Georgia.”
Barrow faces a substantially more Republican district after redistricting. In Georgia’s 12th, he’ll face the winner of a GOP primary, likely either businessman Rick Allen, state Rep. Lee Anderson, attorney and retired Navy fighter pilot Wright McLeod or attorney Maria Sheffield.
Roll Call rates the general election race as a Tossup.
