The potential for terrible weather may have put the kibosh on the first day of the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., but it didn’t put a damper on the offsite K Street scene. Even a “Birdies for the Brave” charity golf event to benefit wounded veterans, organized by Artemis Strategies lobbyist Ari Storch, went on today.

“We have about 100 golfers out,” said Storch’s colleague Joe Davis, who said he was on the course snapping pictures of all the foursomes when reached by phone early this afternoon.

The weather, he reported was “touch and go at the beginning. But the sun broke through, and folks are having a good time supporting our wounded warriors.”

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell both made it to the event, though they did not play, Davis said. The tournament at TPC Tampa Bay raised about $1.6 million. It also included two homes donated for soldiers.

According to Davis, other Members of Congress on hand included Sen. John Boozman (Ark.) and Reps. Bill Huizenga (Mich.) and Reid Ribble (Wis.).

SAP and Intel Corp. were major sponsors of the tournament.
