K Street Files: Mercury Shop Adds Rehberg

Former Rep. Denny Rehberg, R-Mont., is setting up shop at the lobbying and communications firm Mercury/Clark & Weinstock.

The firm has also added public relations strategist Karen Hinton and Erick Mullen, a Democratic operative, to its Washington, D.C., roster.

“Denny Rehberg, Karen Hinton, and Erick Mullen are critical additions in Washington as Mercury continues to build a national, bipartisan, best-in-class consultancy. We are thrilled they’ve agreed to join Mercury/Clark & Weinstock,” said former Rep. Vin Weber, R-Minn., a partner who co-chairs Mercury/Clark & Weinstock.

Rehberg lost his bid for a Senate seat to incumbent Democratic Sen. Jon Tester. In the House, he served as chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services and Education.

“I am excited to be joining the prestigious team at Mercury,” Rehberg said in a release announcing his hire. “This firm has a sterling reputation and a proven track-record. Mercury will afford me the opportunity to work on the issues that have defined my career and matter most to the people of Montana.”

Hinton has merged her public affairs firm, Hinton Communications, with Mercury. And Mullen is a former senior aide to Sen. Charles E. Schumer, D-N.Y., and Rep. Steny H. Hoyer, D-Md.

Mercury is owned by the communications conglomerate Omnicom Group Inc.
