Obama Plans Full-Court Press on Guns
President Barack Obama will keep ramping up the public pressure on his gun control agenda next week, as the issue gathers steam in the Senate for debate this month. And the president, the vice president and the first lady are all slated to take part.
The president will kick off the blitz on April 8 in Hartford, Conn., where he will give a speech pushing for his gun agenda and will meet with families affected by the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre.
On April 9, Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. will hold an event with law enforcement officials at the White House pushing the gun bill. On April 10, first lady Michelle Obama will go to Chicago to speak “from her experience as a Chicagoan and a mother about the importance of providing young people with opportunities to achieve their full potential, including by allowing them to grow up in safe, violence-free communities,” White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said Friday.
Biden will appear April 11 on a gun safety roundtable on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”
