Obama to Meet With Hill Leaders Tuesday

President Barack Obama will meet with the top four Congressional leaders on Tuesday at the White House — with student loans, immigration and the budget among the topics expected to be discussed.

Speaker John A. Boehner, R-Ohio, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., will head to the White House on Tuesday afternoon for the meeting after the president gives remarks on his climate plan at Georgetown University.

Student loan interest rates are set to double in a week, and Congress has failed to act given infighting among Democrats over the future of the program and opposition by the White House to the approach of House Republicans.

Republican aides said they expect Obama’s “job destroying” climate plan, which they also label his “national energy tax,” to be discussed.

The meetings of the top leaders haven’t always borne fruit. They met in February to discuss the sequester, and Congress has yet to act to replace it.
