COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. — Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., has finally weighed in on whether Pete Rose should be in the baseball Hall of Fame, our esteemed colleague Meredith Shiner reporter in brother blog Heard on the Hill. At least one T-shirt purveyor here, home to the Hall of Fame, is willing to bet others agree with him.

Safe at Home Ballpark Collectibles here on Main Street sells a T-shirt that echoes Reid’s recent comments to the Reno Gazette-Journal that Rose had gambled on baseball, yes, but it’s been long enough and he’s too good not get his mug on a plaque here. “Vote Pete into the Hall of Fame” the shirt says on the back, while “The all-time hits leader not in Cooperstown? Please!” adorns the front.

Rose, the Cincinnati Reds and Philadelphia Phillies star, was banned for life from the Hall by the late Major League Baseball Commissioner A. Bartlett Giamatti for betting on baseball.

However it shakes out, it’s worth noting that while Rose isn’t in the Hall of Fame per se, his individual and team accomplishments, along with photos and memorabilia, are laid out in detail all over the adjoining museum here.
