“Drinking Buddies,” Joe Swanberg’s movie about kinda-sorta love in a Chicago brewery, celebrates the craft beer culture that has provided the thirsty with something to drink to. Filmed in the Windy City’s Revolution Brewing, it’s also a valentine to that city’s vibrant, young entrepreneurial set and deserves a look from anyone affiliated with or a fan of Washington’s brewing class.

Playing now at the Landmark E Street Cinema (555 11th St. NW), “Drinking Buddies” has been making the festival circuit rounds and has been released on iTunes and video on demand. Swanberg, an independent movie mainstay, is also a home brewer, and the scenes of life in a brewery, and its attendant, sudsy social life, feel spot on.

It’s a bonus to see it at E Street, since the theater has a full bar. One doesn’t even have to wait until afterward to partake of a cold one. And is it possible, with the recent release of the beer-centered science-fiction movie “The World’s End,” that we might be entering a golden (ale) age of beer movies?
