Classified Program Speeds Satellite Data Transmission

“The secretive Pentagon agency that runs the nation’s system of spy satellites has cut the time it takes to transmit intelligence data to analysts by a dramatic margin as part of a program to use the data to track weapons of mass destruction,” USA Today reports.

“Pentagon budget and contract records show the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) has developed a high-speed satellite modem to transmit data it collects to intelligence analysts. The experimental modem program was scheduled to become an official NRO program this year.”
