Since the tax bill would, presumably, take effect on January 1, 2018, the legislation would not affect 2017 returns filed next April 15.
But that doesn’t mean that every governmental initiative can be paid for by taxing “the 1 percent” or that all such soak-the-rich proposals represent wise tax policy.
