The votes were: 50-47, rejecting an amendment from Vermont Democrat Patrick J. Leahy to add $250 million for grants to states to strengthen security of their election systems.
Lesko garnered 53 percent of the vote compared to Democrat Hiral Tipirneni’s 47 percent. That Tipirneni came within single digits had some Republicans sounding the alarm.
The 47-year-old (who turns 48 on Jan. 29) said he doesn’t anticipate spending his entire adult life in Washington.
Drinda Randall, a 47-year-old delegate from Plano, later said that she “loves” Cruz but disagreed with his speech last night.
