In honor of Twitter’s 10th birthday Monday, Arizona Sen. John McCain took us on a trip down memory lane of his life. The Republican posted images throughout his life with “tweets” that he would have posted at the time. He starts with a video to Twitter saying "Happy 10th Birthday" and showing off his 2 million followers. Happy 10th birthday @twitter! Looking back, I kind of wish you'd been around a lot earlier... #LoveTwitter pic.twitter.com/rc0Mh9lImo — John McCain (@SenJohnMcCain) March 21, 2016 His first message in 140 characters recalls his days as a midshipman: September 1957: "Another day, another demerit @NavalAcademy #Class58" #LoveTwitter pic.twitter.com/qs9dvnzX6o — John McCain (@SenJohnMcCain) March 21, 2016 Then he jumps to October 1967, taking off of a historic Essex-class aircraft carrier. Oct 1967: "In my jet, on the flight deck of USS Oriskany getting ready to take off #GonnaBeAGreatDay" #LoveTwitter pic.twitter.com/cWBPh4CjyH — John McCain (@SenJohnMcCain) March 21, 2016 He includes videos from these events, including the January 1977 release of a song some of us only know from 'Mamma Mia'. January 1977: "Loving ABBA's new song 'Take a Chance on Me' #ABBAforever" #LoveTwitter pic.twitter.com/06K32i5TUY — John McCain (@SenJohnMcCain) March 21, 2016 A photograph of him in January 1968 shows his 72nd day as a prisoner of war: "Day 72 in the Hanoi Hilton #WorstHotelEver " #LoveTwitter pic.twitter.com/w4CKU52XUK — John McCain (@SenJohnMcCain) March 21, 2016 He then showed a photograph of meeting President Ronald Reagan in July 1986. As a primary challenger to then-Texas Gov. George W. Bush, McCain won the state.
