Capitol Hill Groomer Wins at Westminster

With a little canine help, Jodi Longmire, a pet groomer at Doolittles on Capitol Hill, brought back the Best of Breed title from the 127th Westminster Kennel Dog Show in New York City.

Longmire’s 2-year-old champion French bulldog, Celeste, beat out tough competition in the premier national dog show to capture the title. Although Longmire has been showing dogs since she was 10, “This by far is the most exciting win because [Celeste] is so young,” she said.

Longmire competes with Celeste at area dog shows on weekends, but compared Westminster to the Academy Awards for dog shows because of the elite competition. “There were five dogs out there that could have easily won,” she said, but Celeste’s performance and crowd support enabled her to take top honors.

“Westminster is the only dog show I get really nervous for because it’s so competitive,” Longmire said.

Longmire has been showing dogs for 35 years and grooming for 18 years. She grooms at Doolittles on Mondays and Thursdays.
