Bush 41 Joins the Fitness Craze During Campaign

Talk about being fit for office. Here former President George H.W. Bush joins an aerobics class in Concord, N.H., during his run for the Republican presidential nomination in 1980.

The elder Bush, of course, didn’t capture the GOP nomination that year, losing out to Ronald Reagan. But the future 41 did get the nod to join the GOP ticket and won the vice presidency later that year. In 1988, he made the obligatory rounds in New Hampshire again as he successfully sought the presidential nomination.
