Day of Hope

Legend Bob Hope, who celebrated his 100th birthday May 29, spent his 75th birthday on Capitol Hill.

In 1978, then-Speaker Tip O’Neill (D-Mass.) hosted a luncheon for Hope in the Speaker’s Dining Room. With Hope sitting in the gallery, Members of the House sang “Happy Birthday” to him.

In this photo, Hope is greeted by then-House Majority Whip John Brademas (D-Ind.) as Doorkeeper James Molloy (left) looks on.
