Game Time

These children — 12-year-old Lavah Simchah and 13-year-old Ezratah Tamimah of Plymouth, Mass. — enjoy a game of morels on the National Mall last week during the Twelve Tribes exhibit “Rekindling the Fire.”

The Twelve Tribes, a group of people who follow the teachings of the Old and New Testaments and live together in households and clans, organized the exhibit, which included theaters, forums, crafts and entertainment.

Twelve Tribes followers, like the girls above, dress modestly, according to the group’s Web site. The ancient game they are playing is similar to Chinese checkers.

Although it was adjacent to the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, the Twelve Tribes exhibit was not part of the festival.
