Weekend Seminar Series Part of Film Fest

Noted motion picture industry professionals and independent filmmakers will meet this weekend for a three-day-long seminar series as part of the D.C. Independent Film Festival at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Friendship Heights.

Seminars will address current issues facing the independent filmmaking community, including the effect of digital technology on the medium, ways to fund independent projects, the promotion of independent films, legal code surrounding the making and distributing of movies and workshops designed to help filmmakers work with the government on projects. On Friday, the festival will also host an advocacy forum to allow filmmakers to learn about current political issues facing the independent film industry.

Speakers will include Elizabeth Peters, executive director of the Association of Independent Film and Video Producers; David Green, vice president and general counsel of Technology and New Media for the Motion Picture Association of America; and John Selib, Democratic tax counsel for the Senate Finance Committee.

For more information on the seminars, call (202) 537-9493 or send an e-mail to seminars@dciff.org. — Elizabeth Brotherton
