Kerry’s Climbers

While he may be hoping to become a Hill climber himself come November, Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) recently picked up three new additions to his Capitol Hill staff.

Andy Davis, 31, is the Senator’s new Capitol Hill communications director. He will handle Kerry’s press efforts regarding the Senate, Kerry’s official record, floor debates and communications with other Hill offices. The former communications director for Sen. Fritz Hollings (D-S.C.) also worked as deputy director and radio producer for the Senate Democratic Technology and Communications Committee. The Aurora, Colo., native holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado.

Joining Davis in the press shop as Kerry’s new press secretary is April Boyd. Boyd, 28, has served as communications director for Rep. Ellen Tauscher (D-Calif.) for the past three years. Before coming to the Hill she was a spokeswoman for then-Energy Secretary Bill Richardson. The Loyola Marymount University graduate holds a bachelor’s in political science and grew up in Sidney, Iowa.

Dimitri Michaud joins Kerry’s staff

as staff assistant/tour coordinator. Michaud, 24, graduated with bachelor’s degrees in government and anthropology from Colby College. He hails from Malden, Mass.

Inheriting the Office of Meek. Rep. Kendrick Meek (D-Fla.) has hired three new staffers in the past few months, including a press assistant, legislative counsel and staff assistant.

Drew Hammill, 25, joined the office in February to help in Meek’s press shop. Hammill is a former press intern for Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.) and national development associate for the New Democrat Network. The Pittsburg, Ill., native holds a master’s in comparative politics from the London School of Economics and two bachelor’s degrees from the University of Illinois.

Helping Meek with legislative issues such as homeland security, foreign affairs, trade, immigration and energy is Preeti Chaudhari. Also a former Emanuel staffer, Chaudhari worked as assistant regional counsel for the Social Security Administration and as a judicial law clerk. The Chicago native holds a law degree from Northern Illinois University and a bachelor’s from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana.

Lizzie Whitworth will now handle staff duties for Meek. Whitworth, 22, is a former intern for Meek as well as an office assistant at the American Association of State, Highway and Transportation Officials. She was also a teaching assistant at the Acorn School for Early Childhood Development. Whitworth is a graduate of the University of Colorado and calls Laredo, Texas, her hometown.
