Turner Turns Two

Rep. Jim Turner (D-Texas) has recently made two new hires in his Capitol Hill office.

Louis Jim, 22, has assumed the role of staff assistant and will be responsible for constituent requests and front office duties for Turner. The former legislative intern for Capitol Solutions and legislative intern for the House Homeland Security Committee also interned for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. The Hicksville, N.Y., native holds both a master’s in public administration and a bachelor’s in political science from American University.

Taking on legislative assistant duties for health issues is Joy McGlaun, 24. The Abilene, Texas, native has worked as a Truman fellow at the Health and Human Services Department for the past two years. A graduate of Texas Tech University, McGlaun holds bachelor’s degrees in political science and Spanish.

Additions, Promotions and Goodbyes for Quinn. With one new hire, one promotion and one staffer leaving, it’s been a busy time in retiring Rep. Jack Quinn’s (R-N.Y.) office.

Jayne McGowan, Quinn’s scheduler and a former staff assistant for Rep. Jim Walsh (R-N.Y.), is leaving Capitol Hill to work as the executive assistant to the president of the Satellite Broadcasting and Communications Association. McGowan, 23, is a University of Virginia

graduate who holds a degree in sociology. She hails from Syracuse, N.Y.

Holly Palmer, a former Quinn intern, has been hired to take on legislative correspondent/systems administrator duties for the Congressman’s office. Palmer, 24, is working toward a master’s in public policy from George Washington University and holds a bachelor’s in economics from the University of Albany. She hails from Coxsackie, N.Y.

C.W. Estoff, 25, has been moved up from legislative correspondent to legislative assistant for Quinn. Estoff will now handle defense, veterans’ affairs, financial services and other issues for the Congressman. The Bowdoin College graduate hails from Buffalo, N.Y. [IMGCAP(1)]

Golden State Pickups. Rep. Doug Ose (R-Calif.) recently picked up a new legislative correspondent, executive assistant/legislative assistant, staff assistant and legislative director in his Hill office.

Themis Chryssostomides, 25, recently began managing the retiring Congressman’s correspondence. The former research assistant at the National Portrait Gallery also interned in the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and the Skinner Auction House. She is a San Diego native who holds a master’s degree from the University of Chicago and attended Boston University as an undergraduate.

Erin Sanford has begun handling Ose’s scheduling duties as well as taking on international relations and labor and immigration issues as the Congressman’s new executive assistant/ legislative assistant. Sanford, 23, previously worked as a marketing manager at The Performance Institute. The Gridley, Calif., native graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a degree in political science.

Jeff Valuck, a former intern for Ose, has been tapped to take on staff assistant duties in the Congressman’s office. Valuck graduated in 2002 from the University of Michigan and hails from Toledo, Ohio.

Directing legislative policy in Ose’s Hill office is Bert English, 27. An Ose staffer since 2000, English has worked his way up from staff assistant to legislative correspondent and senior legislative assistant. He began his work on the Hill interning for former Rep. Ron Packard (R-Calif.). English is a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College who calls Arlington, Va., his home.
