Under the Dome

The Capitol is seen through the skylights in the Great Hall of the Capitol Visitor Center. The Great Hall, at 20,000 square feet, will serve as the post-security greeting place for visitors to the CVC, which the Architect of the Capitol estimates will be finished in December 2006.

This week AOC Alan Hantman led Sen. Wayne Allard (R-Colo.), chairman of the Senate Appropriations subcommittee that oversees construction of the CVC, on a tour of the facility, which has been plagued by construction delays and rising costs. “It’s a complicated project and it’s going to be a great facility,” Allard said.
