Kansas: Pelosi to Headline Friday Fundraiser for Boyda

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is scheduled on Friday to headline a fundraiser for freshman Rep. Nancy Boyda (D), who faces a tough race for re-election in the Republican-leaning 2nd district, according to The Lawrence Journal-World.

The evening event is set for the Kansas City area.

Pelosi also will be in eastern Kansas to deliver a speech at Kansas University’s Dole Institute of Politics.

Pelosi headlining a fundraiser for Boyda is notable because the Kansas Congresswoman has declined to participate in the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s “Frontline” program for vulnerable Democrats. Boyda has expressed a desire to maintain her independence from Washington, D.C., Democrats.

Boyda closed the third quarter of the year with $488,000 in cash on hand.

State Treasurer Lynn Jenkins and former Rep. Jim Ryun, running against each other in the GOP primary, closed the third quarter with $361,000 and $335,000 in cash on hand, respectively.
