Virginia: Democratic Delegation Writes Checks to Forgit

While the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has shied away from investing significant campaign dollars in the long-shot special election campaign of Iraq War veteran Philip Forgit (D) in the 1st district, his campaign announced Wednesday that the Democratic members of the commonwealth’s Congressional delegation had so far pledged more than $10,000 to the campaign.

Forgit is facing state Del. Rob Wittman (R) in next Tuesday’s election to fill the term of the late Rep. Jo Ann Davis (R). Wittman has received significant support from the National Republican Congressional Committee in the race to the tune of about $80,000 in independent expenditures since the abbreviated campaign began following November’s nominating conventions.

Forgit’s campaign said in a news release that he has received $5,000 in contributions from Rep. Jim Moran (D), $2,500 from Rep. Rick Boucher (D) and $2,300 from Rep. Bobby Scott (D). Sen. Jim Webb (D) has given $1,000 to Forgit through his political action committee, and former Gov. Mark Warner, who is running for Senate in 2008, has cut a $5,000 check from his PAC.
