Georgia: A Sixth Democrat Enters Race Against Chambliss

In the race to take on first-term Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R), the Democratic primary field is starting to get a little crowded.

Last week former state Rep. Jim Martin became the sixth announced Democrat to enter the race.

Martin joins DeKalb County CEO Vernon Jones, TV reporter Dale Cardwell, scientist Rand Knight, businessman Josh Lanier and Maggie Martinez, a former Puerto Rico legislator.

Martin, who is an attorney, brings with him a long list of connections with state party officials. However, Knight’s campaign announced a key Georgia Democratic endorsement last week in the form of former Rep. Denise Majette, who lost her own Senate bid to Sen. Johnny Isakson (R) in 2004.
