Fossella Admits to Extramarital Affair, Says He Is Father of Woman’s Daughter

Rep. Vito Fossella (R-N.Y.), wracked by controversy since his drunken-driving arrest last week, has just issued a statement in which he confessed that he has had an extramarital relationship with the woman who bailed him out of jail following the arrest — and that he is the father of her young daughter. “I have had a relationship with Laura Fay, with whom I have a three year old daughter,” Fossella said in a statement. “My personal failings and imperfections have caused enormous pain to the people I love and I am truly sorry. “While I understand that there will be many questions, including those about my political future, making any political decisions right now are furthest from my mind. “Over the coming weeks and months, I will to continue to do my job and I will work hard to heal the deep wounds I have caused.” House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) declined to say whether Fossella should resign. Boehner said Fossella has some thinking to do over the weekend, and the issue is “between him, his family and his constituents.”
