Democrats Announce Committee Slots

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced Thursday that the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee voted to recommend committee assignments for three new Democratic Members.

The committee recommended that Mississippi Rep. Travis Childers (D) be appointed to the Financial Services and Agriculture committees, that Louisiana Rep. Don Cazayoux (D) serve on the Financial Services Committee, and that California Rep. Jackie Speier (D) be appointed to the Financial Services Committee.

The recommendations will now be put forward for approval by the full Democratic Caucus, which will vote on the nominations in the coming weeks.

“The committees, the Democratic Caucus and indeed the entire Congress will be well-served by the enthusiasm and fresh perspective these Members bring with them to their new assignments,” Pelosi said.

The committee is expected to meet again after the Memorial Day recess to recommend more committee assignments. The three newly elected Members are replacing Reps. Jim Marshall (D-Ga.), Robert Wexler (D-Fla.) and Dan Boren (D-Okla.) on the Financial Services Committee. Those three Democrats each had temporary waivers to serve on the committee, pending the outcome of special elections in each of the new Members’ respective districts.
