Florida: Buchanan Tops $3M in Money Raised for Cycle

Rep. Vern Buchanan (R), who won his seat by just 369 votes in 2006, announced Wednesday that he raised more than $600,000 between April 1 and June 30, topping $3 million for the entire cycle.

Buchanan, a personally wealthy auto dealer, finished June with more than $1.5 million in his campaign account.

“Congressman Buchanan continues to be humbled by the tremendous grassroots support he has received from voters throughout the district,” campaign manager Joe Gruters said in a statement.

Buchanan, who spent $8.1 million, including $5.5 million from his own pocket, to win the 13th district seat, appears headed for a rematch with former bank executive Christine Jennings (D). Jennings, who waged a protracted battle to challenge the 2006 election results, had not reported her latest fundraising figures as of press time Wednesday.
