Kentucky: Yarmuth and Northup Vacuuming Up Funds

As expected, the highly anticipated rematch taking place in the Louisville-based 3rd district is shaping up to be another expensive affair.

Second-quarter Federal Election Commission reports released Tuesday showed that Rep. John Yarmuth (D) continues to hold a fundraising lead on the woman he ousted in 2006, but former five-term Rep. Anne Northup (R) is continuing to raise cash like the campaign veteran that she is.

Northup reported raising more than $500,000 in the second quarter and had $819,000 in cash on hand.

Yarmuth still held a cash-on-hand lead at the end of June with more than $1 million in the bank. But during the second quarter, he was able to raise only $360,000.
