Virginia: New Poll for Connolly Shows Big Advantage

In perhaps Democrats’ best pickup opportunity of the cycle, Gerry Connolly (D), the well-known chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, is up 31 points over Republican businessman Keith Fimian, according to a new poll commissioned by the Connolly campaign.

Connolly led Fimian 52 percent to 21 percent with 25 percent of voters undecided in a survey of 500 registered voters conducted July 10-14 by Lake Research Partners. The poll had a 4.4-point margin of error.

The impressive polling numbers for Connolly come just a day after Fimian reported another strong fundraising quarter in which he had $1 million in the bank as of June 30.

Though he is relatively unknown in the district, Fimian’s fundraising (and his ability to loan his campaign hundreds of thousands of dollars from his personal fortune) have proved to be one of his biggest assets so far in the campaign. Connolly is coming off an expensive primary battle and ended June with $275,000 in cash on hand.
