Louisiana: Kennedy: Mayor Hates Guns And Loves Gays

When they learned that deep-pocketed New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg (I) would be hosting a July 30 fundraiser for Sen. Mary Landrieu (D) on July 30, aides to Landrieu’s Republican challenger, state Treasurer John Kennedy, didn’t panic.

Instead, they sought to remind Bayou State voters just what Bloomberg stands for. So they issued a news release with the headline, “Last Landrieu Endorsement: Gun-Grabbing Liberal Mike Bloomberg.”

The Kennedy campaign noted that Bloomberg’s push for gun control has made him “the NRA’s No. 1 enemy.” And for good measure, the Republican camp pointed out that Bloomberg is a supporter of gay marriage, digging up a quote in which the mayor said, “I think anybody should be allowed to marry anybody.”

Kennedy also received good news Tuesday when his lone Republican primary opponent, Jacques Boudreaux, a landscape contractor, dropped out of the race.
