Senate Stuck on Energy

After approving the housing bill midday Saturday, Senate Republicans stuck to their plan to block legislation unrelated to reducing prices at the gas pump.

After that vote, Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) tried to get the Senate to move to legislation providing heating assistance to those with low incomes and then onto the Defense authorization bill, but Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) objected, saying he was doing so because Reid was limiting amendments. Reid had requested that only amendments dealing with defense be offered.
