GOP Revolt Enters Fifth Day

Republicans on Thursday launched the fifth day of their floor revolt on energy with a morning presser aimed at their rank-and-file colleagues across the aisle.

GOPers are challenging Democrats to call on Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to reconvene the House for a vote on expanded oil drilling and plan Thursday to send Members of the majority a letter to that effect.

At the news conference, House Minority Whip Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) cited quotes from a handful of Democratic lawmakers indicating they would support authorizing new domestic energy exploration. He also launched a fresh attack on Pelosi, suggesting she is more interested in promoting her new book than in addressing soaring energy prices.

But the minority party has had little success getting Democratic leaders to budge. Yesterday, Democratic leaders punched back at the charges Republicans have leveled on the dimmed floor of the House chamber in recent days, arguing GOPers did nothing to address a looming energy crisis during their 12 years in the majority and have blocked Democratic-backed bills to ease the price at the pump.
