Richardson Lands Prime Speaking Slot Tonight

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson (D), bumped from his scheduled Wednesday night speaking slot at the Democratic National Convention, will instead act as a warm-up act for Sen. Barack Obama (D) this evening at Invesco Field at Mile High.

According to members of the New Mexico delegation to the convention, Richardson will deliver an address tonight centering around U.S. foreign policy — perhaps auditioning to be the Democratic presidential nominee’s secretary of state. Richardson previously served in President Clinton’s Cabinet.

His speech was moved to tonight in part because Clinton’s Wednesday night address went over the allotted time. Richardson unsuccessfully sought the Democratic presidential nomination, bowing out early on in that race.
