Delegations Coordinate on Gustav Issues

The handful of delegations to the Republican National Convention whose states may be affected by Hurricane Gustav have been communicating twice daily via a working group of delegation chairmen.

According to a spokeswoman for the Florida delegation, whose chairman is participating, the working group was formed at the behest of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), who is scheduled this week to formally accept his party’s presidential nomination.

The convention organizing committee is set to hold a press conference this afternoon to reveal scheduling changes to the four-day GOP presidential nominating convention in St. Paul, Minn. Meanwhile, the Florida delegation has yet to adjust its activities for the upcoming week.

A spokeswoman for the Arizona delegation confirmed that Grand Canyon Republicans in the Twin Cities for the convention also plan to keep up their schedule as previously planned. However, the Arizona delegation’s schedule and the schedule of other delegations could change if there is a drastic adjustment to the GOP convention program overall.
