Day Two Opens in St. Paul

Day two of the Republican National Convention is now under way and most of Monday’s canceled program is scheduled to be squeezed into tonight’s packed lineup. Headlining tonight’s activities will be Sen. Joe Lieberman (ID-Conn.) and former Sen. Fred Thompson (R-Tenn.), who will appear between 9 and 10 p.m. CDT. First lady Laura Bush is scheduled to give a brief address prior to 9 p.m., and President Bush will appear live via video feed immediately after his wife. House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) called the convention to order just after 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, noting that the convention participants’ thoughts remain with those on the Gulf Coast who have been affected by Hurricane Gustav.
