Louisiana Primary Will Be Postponed

A spokesman for the Louisiana secretary of state’s office said Wednesday that the state will not hold its scheduled primaries on Saturday because of devastation from Hurricane Gustav earlier this week. State elections officials will decide Thursday how and when to reschedule the elections. Several competitive Congressional primaries are on tap in the Pelican State, include a multicandidate Democratic primary involving indicted Rep. William Jefferson and several challengers, and a three-way GOP primary in the 4th district race to replace retiring Rep. Jim McCrery (R).
