Minnesota: Tinklenberg Boasts of ‘A’ Rating From NRA

Former state Transportation Commissioner El Tinklenberg (D) announced Tuesday that he had received an “A” rating from the National Rifle Association. Tinklenberg is challenging freshman Rep. Michele Bachmann (R), who according to her campaign has also received an “A” rating from the group.

In a statement, Tinklenberg said he was “proud” to earn the group’s top grade. “As a lifelong hunter, my strong concern for Second Amendment rights stands alongside my commitment to preserving habitat, protecting clean air and clean water, and promoting outdoor recreation in our state,” Tinklenberg said.

Bachmann won the 6th district with 50 percent of the vote in 2006, defeating Democratic nominee Patty Wetterling by 8 points. Democrats hope Tinklenberg’s more moderate profile — he served as transportation commissioner under the administration of then-Gov. Jesse Ventura (I) — will play better in the GOP-leaning district north of the Twin Cities.
