Photo From the Attic: Building a Case

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the first House office building (now the Cannon Building). Over the past century, Cannon has played host to some of the most important events in Congressional history, including former State Department official Alger Hiss’ Aug. 5, 1948, appearance before the House Un-American Activities Committee to deny charges that he was a Communist conspirator. The proceedings were led by a first-term House Member, Richard Nixon.
