Democrats Delay Energy Bill

Updated 12:15 p.m. House leadership has officially postponed consideration of the Democratic energy bill until next week.

No votes will be held Friday in deference to a request from Gulf Coast lawmakers who are flying home in advance of Hurricane Ike.

House Democratic leaders will head into another Caucus meeting Thursday afternoon to map out the plan for advancing their energy package, which is expected to hit the floor early next week.

Immediately after a late-morning 9/11 ceremony on the Capitol steps, Democrats will huddle for the third time this week to hammer out details on the forthcoming bill.

Democrats are eying Tuesday for possible floor action on the package, though plans are still in flux. Aides said action on the bill also depends on the extent of damage from Hurricane Ike and whether affected Members can come back in time.
