Energy Summit On Tap

In anticipation of next week’s debate on an energy bill, the Senate will hold an all-day energy summit Friday.

Two panels will discuss gasoline prices, climate change, national security and other energy-related topics. The speakers will include Shell Oil Co. President Marvin Odum, General Motors Chairman and CEO Richard Wagoner and Exelon Corp. Chairman and CEO John Rowe.

“This critical discussion will provide a broad spectrum of views on how to tackle the difficult energy challenges confronting our nation, including economic security, global warming and ending our addition to oil,” Energy and Natural Resources Chairman Jeff Bingaman (D-N.M.) said.

The summit will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Dirksen G-50.

Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said he plans to bring to the floor next week at least three separate bills that aim to lower gas prices — a Democratic and GOP proposal, and one drafted by a bipartisan group of lawmakers.
