House to Adjourn Today

The House will adjourn for the week this afternoon in order to allow members of the Texas delegation to return to their districts that have been threatened by Hurricane Ike. Members of the Democratic leadership are meeting today to discuss how to advance their energy package, and Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), who made the adjournment announcement, said he expects the House to consider the energy bill early next week. Members are expected to return Monday evening. Hurricane Ike is currently a Category 2 storm as it moves across the Gulf of Mexico. Forecasters have said it may strengthen to Category 3 by the time it makes landfall late Friday.
