Maine: Candidates for Open Seat Raising D.C. Cash

Both candidates seeking to follow in Rep. Tom Allen’s (D) footsteps are scheduled to be in Washington, D.C., in the next several days to raise money for their respective bids.

Former Common Cause President Chellie Pingree (D) is scheduled to attend a Sept. 23 fundraiser for her campaign at the residence of Marc Tucker and Kathy Bonk. The minimum suggested contribution for political action committees is $1,000, while other tickets cost $50 or $250 apiece.

Pingree’s opponent, former state Sen. Charlie Summers (R), is also fundraising in Washington. Sens. Susan Collins (R) and Olympia Snowe (R) and Rep. Thaddeus McCotter (R-Mich.) are hosting a breakfast today for Summers at Charlie Palmer Steak on Capitol Hill. Tickets are $500 per person.

Allen is leaving the House to run for Senate against Collins. The 1st district has elected only one Republican to Congress for a single term in the past two decades.

Pingree is favored to win this November.
