Rep. Joe Knollenberg (R) has gone up with his first two TV ads of the cycle.

Both are positive spots that feature testimonials from women who praise Knollenberg’s work in the district. In one ad, “Valarie and Lauren,” Valarie Lane describes how Knollenberg helped get funding for a special needs center that her daughter attends.

“My name is Valerie Lane and this is my daughter Lauren Ettinger … she has special needs,” Lane says. “We’ve been involved with the Friendship Circle over the past fifteen years. Congressman Knollenberg was very instrumental in getting funding for the Friendship Circle. She’s gained very important life skills. As a Democrat, I am supporting Joe Knollenberg. He is a person that fights for the community. Congressman Knollenberg is a person that cares about people.”

After getting a pass from Democrats for years, the eight-term lawmaker is being challenged by former state Lottery Commissioner Gary Peters (D) in the Oakland County district, which is northwest of Detroit.
