New Mexico: New Senate Poll Shows Udall With Big Lead

Rep. Tom Udall (D) led Rep. Steve Pearce (R) by 16 points in the battle for the Land of Enchantment’s open Senate seat, according to a new Democratic poll.

The survey of 600 likely voters, conducted Sept. 10-14, found Udall ahead of Pearce 55 percent to 39 percent, with an oddly low 2 percent undecided. The poll’s margin of error was 4 points.

The Pearce campaign dismissed the poll as partisan and misleading.

“Every independent nonpartisan poll shows the race at 7 or 8 points,” Pearce campaign spokesman Brian Phillips said. “Udall has spent millions on TV ads only to see his lead drop dramatically.”

The poll was conducted jointly by the Democratic firms Myers Research and Grove Insight.
