Reid Urges Stimulus Vote

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) made another appeal on Thursday for passage of a second stimulus package, placing the measure on the list of items he wants to see passed before Congress adjourns for the election.

“There has to be an economic recovery package,” Reid said at an afternoon press conference in which he chided President Bush for his reaction to the crisis in the financial markets. “We should have an economic recovery program,” Reid insisted.

Trying to find a path to adjournment by Sept. 26, Reid earlier Thursday appeared to trim down his priority list amid GOP obstacles.

Along with the stimulus package, Reid wants to pass the tax-extenders bill, an energy measure and complete the continuing resolution.
