Alaska: Enviros Target Young in New TV Advertising

Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund has set their sights on Rep. Don Young (R). The pro-environment group is up with an advertisement targeting Young on the issue of global warming as well as federal investigations into his office.

“Why is this man smiling?” an announcer asks in the spot. “Because he thinks he’s above the law? Don Young’s under four separate federal investigations for abusing his office … including accepting bribes from VECO and convicted executive Bill Allen. And he even refuses to protect Alaska from global warming. Don Young may think it’s funny. Do you?”

Young recently won the closest race of his career, defeating the state’s lieutenant governor by about 300 votes in the GOP primary. Young will face former state House Minority Leader Ethan Berkowitz (D) in November.

A recent poll by Research 2000 showed Berkowitz leading Young, 53 percent to 39 percent. The poll, paid for by the liberal Web site Daily Kos, took the opinion of 600 likely voters Sept. 15-17 and it had a margin of error of 4 points.
