Rep. Mark Udall (D) has picked up the support of another Republican in his battle for an open Senate seat. This time it’s self-described “proud Republican” Karen Allard Campbell, who has opted for Udall over GOP Senate nominee Bob Schaffer.

Allard Campbell is the niece of outgoing Sen. Wayne Allard (R), and former Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell’s (R) daughter-in-law. The Allard family is a prominent Colorado Republican family going back to the early 1970s; Campbell was a Democrat until he switched parties in 1995.

According to the Udall campaign, Allard Campbell said she is supporting the Democratic Senate nominee because he “has the proven ability to reach across party lines and work for the benefit of all Coloradans.”
