Washington: Reichert Airs First Ad, but Burner Blasts Back

With less than a month left before Election Day, vulnerable Rep. Dave Reichert (R) went up with his first television advertisement Tuesday in the expensive Seattle media market.

The 30-second spot, “The Outsider,” both praises the Congressman and criticizes his opponent, 2006 Democratic nominee Darcy Burner. Burner aired her first television ad in early August.

“We’ve come to know Dave Reichert,” says an announcer in the ad. “A record of service bred from humility, his effectiveness grounded in courage. An outsider reaching across the aisle and getting things done. Now Dave faces a partisan politician running again with no record and no experience who puts party above all and calls for higher taxes. Higher taxes in this economy? We need more security, not more to worry about. We need Dave Reichert.”

Burner released two of her own spots this week: One advertisement targeted Reichert’s economic record, while the other discussed education issues.

The 8th district covers a suburban area east of Seattle. This is the second time Reichert has received a challenge from Burner: The Democrat lost by about 7,000 votes in 2006.
